Using water and wastewater decentralization to enhance the resilience and sustainability of cities

Nature Water: This study evaluates a decentralized water and wastewater management system that focuses on resource recovery (energy, water, and nutrients) through source separation. The system incorporates vertical farming and solar photovoltaics, creating a sustainable and cost-efficient model that supports circular economies and reduces dependence on centralized infrastructure. The study emphasizes the water–energy–food nexus, aiming to increase resilience and sustainability.
