Our takeaways from Vitafoods 2024

Drupps attended Vitafoods in Geneva last week, which happened on May 14-16. Here are some of our takeaways.

We went there to get an understanding of the industry of Nutraceuticals, a sprawling and heterogenous field whose common denominator is supplying the food and pharma industries with additives, from protein and vitamines, to yeast and collagen. With the purpose of, for the most part, making their customer’s end-products more attractive.

It seems this field is in strong development mode, partly reflecting the ever-changing and fast-paced nature of consumer habits and wantings. Some trends were clear — health is a major selling point, as is looking healthy. We listened to researchers telling us that 8 out of 10 Americans are having tummy issues, and what products could mitigate it. And that previously taboo topics like menopause will not be tabooed for much longer, due to the simple reason that there is good money to be made to that quite-substantial part of the world’s population that is likely to experience it called women.

Many, if not all, of the nutraceutical products are heat-sensitive and need to be treated with care when in production. Nearly all experience some form of drying at some point, either to turn it into dry powder to simplify handling or increase its shelf life. That’s where Drupps comes in. Drupps is leading the field when it comes to tech suppliers optimizing water and energy use for these production processes.

To sum up, Drupps is a natural component in any nutraceutical production chain, improving its sustainability and economy. We got a lot of answers, and got a good understanding of this industry. Now we will get to work.
